Gwen receiving so much criticism over her character arc in ATSV is wild cuz that’s literally the plot of the movie, that’s what the movie is all about and that’s what made it this good. That’s what’s intended to happen, she’s repeating the mistake with a friend, and going for a redemption. Her first lines are literally “I hurt him and he wasn’t the only one”. You immediately know something bad will happen between her and Miles and that it will be, if not entirely, then mostly, her fault, which she is aware of when she’s telling the story. The movie doesn’t portray her as the best character and definitely not as the worst one, it gives her character development, just like her dad wasn’t there for her at first and by the end of the film he was. No one’s saying that she was entirely right, but that just like her dad, she saw that she wasn’t there for a loved one and decided to try to fix the problem before It’s too late - which is so much more than what a lot of characters usually do. Literally everyone makes mistakes, it’s how she handled it that’s great and as long as she doesn’t repeat it (same for her dad too).
not to mention mirroring Miles. Gwen doesn’t have a support system and is at the mercy of Sociaty and ends up doing things she regrets. Whereas Miles has a support system, and it’s that support system that helps him be self-confident and say go to hell with the canon idea.
“I want a bf” “I want a gf” okay??? I want to let go of my past no matter how hurtful the memories might be??? I want love to define me rather than break me in my feverish attempts to seek it????? I want the ever shifting opinions of other people to no longer have such a chokehold on me?????
I like when people say things like “respect blue collar workers!” and then the same people turn around and completely dismiss the years of training it takes to be able to do that type of work safely and effectively.
“Telling people not to do their own electrical work because it’s dangerous is classist bc not everyone can afford an electrician” “I can’t believe that plumber charged me so much money for less than an hour of work, what a scam!” “In the post-capitalist utopia everyone will just take turns doing all types of blue-collar work, instead of years-long apprenticeships we’ll just give them a course in high school or something” “Building and safety codes are just pointless bureaucracy meant to stop the average citizen from being able to build their own structures” “I would love to be a farmer and just hang out tending to plants all day”
These are all things I have seen on this website by self-proclaimed worker’s rights advocates and I hope I don’t have to explain how incredibly insulting and dismissive it is when it’s not outright dangerous. There’s a LOT that needs to be fixed about our current labor system but “pretending like training and safety protocols aren’t important” and “pretending that those jobs are actually really easy and any layperson can do them” are uh. Not good solutions.
So I (27m), found out that our father (39m) had gone missing. So I drove to see my little brother, who was at Uni to see if he was able to come and look for our dad with me.
My little brother, has managed to settle down at law school with his girlfriend but despite that he was willing to drop everything to help me look for dad.
The issue is, whilst we were out on our road trip looking for dad, His girlfriend was murdered.... And I kinda blame myself because my little brother might have been able to save her.
On top of that, I kinda got my brother involved in some of my illegal dealings, that led to us both getting placed on the FBI wanted list, so now my little brother can't go back to law school even if he wanted to.
One of the worst parts of current internet culture is that it makes good old fashioned complaining so difficult. I don’t wanna cancel anyone or bully anyone, I’m not trying to form a hate mob I’m not calling anyone out, i just wanna bitch about something. Because complaining is fun, good for you, even. Is that too much to ask? Where is the room for shooting the shit?
